Driving up the coast to Bodega Bay

Just over an hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge is charming Bodega Bay, a perfect blend of Sonoma County wine country and a beachside town. You may even remember it as the town where Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1963 movie “The Birds” was filmed.
On your drive up, stop through Valley Ford. Have lunch at Rocker Oysterfeller's, known for its Southern-inspired dishes made with local ingredients.
Then stop into Valley Ford Cheese & Creamery to sample local cheeses and enjoy a sweet treat. The family owned Valley Ford Market has produce, bread, local wines, and delicious deli food- perfect for a beach picnic!
Take a leisurely drive along the coastline to Bodega Head for stunning ocean views and short beach hikes. The Bodega Bay Trailhead offers scenic coastal trails. Year-round, you can spot whales and playful seals in the water.
Check out the Bodega Bay bird walk coastal access trail for a chance to see local and migratory birds and enjoy more spectacular views.
Horse N Around Trail Rides: Horseback Trail Rides in Bodega Bay offers guided horseback tours on the beach or on trails with breathtaking coastal views.
There are several places to rent surfboards, paddle boards or kayaks for a closer look at those whales, including Bodega Bay Surf Shack and Bodega Bay Kayak.
Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant such as The Birds Cafe, The Tides Wharf & Restaurant, Drakes Sonoma Coast, or Spud Point Crab Co. If you are not ready for a full dinner, Gourmet Au Bay is a waterside wine bar with award-winning wines and fantastic snack pairings.
Time to enjoy the scenic drive back down to San Francisco! If you’re not quite ready to get back to the city, you can stop by Malibu Farm Tiburon for dessert with a view before crossing the stunning Golden Gate Bridge.
